Our plane touched down on a warm and balmy Friday evening in the legendary city of Rio de Janeiro.

Famed for its spectaular beaches, Carnaval festivals, extraordinary architecture and buzzing culture, an excitive burst of energy shot through our bodies as we exited the craft and headed towards the arrival terminal in Galeão International Airport (GIG).

This city would be our home for the next four nights and we had chosen the best accommodation to help us absorb as much ambience and culture as humanly possible.

A cosy home instead of a hotel

I never liked staying in large hotels, especially global conglomerates with room numbers in the thousands, chained together by identical off-white colored walls and expressionless furniture.

Put together as repetitive and unvaried blocks of spiritless and uninspiring pieces, my time in franchised abodes had always left me feeling unwanted and nothing more than a number and a credit card with a brief hello at the door upon first entry.

In search of something more welcoming, alive and teeming with life, we had scoured Airbnb's listings in the weeks' prior to our departure, trying to find a gem to call our home during our short little visit.

And boy did we find it!

A modern studio between Ipanema and Copacabana beaches

The Cosiest Airbnb In Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro
Location, location, location!

We found an absolutely stunning studio located between two of the most famous beaches in the world, Ipanema and Copacabana.

The entire reservation process had been a complete breeze from start to finish, our host Ghizlane responding to all of our messages instantly with friendly and welcoming replies, each one reaffirming that we had chosen a great place to stay, which made perfect sense - Airbnb had adorned her with a Superhost badge for a reason and she had definitely showed that she was deserving of such an honour.

Not only that but Ghizlane also organized a private transfer from the airport to the studio for a very small fee (BRL150) which was greatly appreciated as we had touched down a little after 9pm and were eager to get to our new home and bed as fast as our jet lagged legs to carry us.

A friendly taxi ride through the heart of Rio de Janeiro

Our driver greeted us in the arrival terminal with a welcoming smile and pleasant demeanour as we exited the building, heading off to the car park to begin our journey across the city and the beaches that lay beyond.

The ride was filled with laughter and knowledge, each intertwined with the other as insights were conveyed and jokes were passed from one culture to the next.

My grasp of the Portuguese language was extremely rusty (and by rusty, I mean completely non-existent). However, I knew all of the popular swear words and phrases and could enunciate them in a perfectly fluid and poised Fortalazen accent (the city where my girlfriend Steffany was originally from) with ease.

Steffany and our driver giggled and howled as I reamed off my list of inappropriate sentences, each one more devilish than the last.

Before we knew it, we had arrived at our destination, the hospitality of our driver transforming the ride from an arduous venture into a blip of enthralment and captivation.

That cozy experience we had been looking for was living up to the hype we had set it upon.

The Studio

We hoisted our bags out of the trunk and headed inside the building, stopping to greet the doorman along the way.

After a brief sign-in process which just involved signing our names on a piece of paper, we were directed to a nearby elevator and embarked upon the short upwardly lift towards the apartment.

The studio apartment had everything we needed and was completely spotless clean.

Consisting of a small fully stocked kitchen with plates, bowls, cups, glasses, cutlery, sink, microwave and fridge, a great sized bathroom with a phenomenal shower (trust me, you won't want to get out - the water pressure is THAT GOOD!!), a large bedroom with a double bed, side tables with lamps, clothing closets, flat screen tv on the wall, air conditioning as well as a small table and two chairs, it was a perfect cozy apartment to call our home for the duration of our stay.

The Cosiest Airbnb In Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro
Nestled between Ipanema and Copacabana

The location of this studio apartment cannot be stated enough. Nestled between two of the world's most famous beaches, Ipanema and Copacabana, we couldn't have picked a better base to see the city, it's beaches, restaurants, bars and phenomenal tourist sites.

A five minute walk in one direction landed us on the sands of Copacabana beach, the sound of music filling the air as locals and tourists enjoyed the sunshine - dancing and talking from dusk until dawn.

Whereas, if we wandered 10 minutes in the other direction, we were ushered in by the turquoise waters of Ipanema as waves lapped and welcomed us to the sunny seashore and it's funky cafés and restaurants.

And if we needed to travel a little further, a taxi rank lay just outside the apartment building, waiting to take us to any part of the city at a moments notice.

We spent four blissful days residing in the heart of this thumping city, visiting the sites, sampling the food and enjoying the warm sunny weather as we wound ourselves along the pavements and streets, our rhythm matching the beat of the city's as we embraced the new culture and all it had to offer.
